For patient safety and carer peace of mind, the Multicare X bed is equipped with a bed exit alarm monitoring system to monitor the patient's presence in bed. The alarm is triggered when the patient moves out of the selected preset zone.

Activation

  1. Activate the bed exit alarm via the bed exit alarm tile on the LCD.
  2. The bed exit alarm monitoring screen should show if the alarm is ON or OFF.
  3. The alarm will activate only for patients who weigh at least 77lbs or 35kg.
  4. Place the patient at the centre of the bed.
  5. Press the play button on the bed exit alarm monitoring screen to activate.
  6. The play button will turn green and a beep will sound to note activation.
  7. The current bed exit status is displayed right on the top status bar, and is easily visible from any screen of the multiboard X.

Inner Zone

The most sensitive alarm zone, the Multicare X bed inner zone or in bed zone is set by default that monitors the in-bed space. The inner zone or in bed zone is sensitive, any disproportional force on the side rails will trigger and cause the alarm to go off. Some triggers can include: leaning with force on the side rails, climbing on side rail, or even just preparing to leave the bed.  The inner zone alarm can be used for confused patients, or for patients who need a higher level of monitoring.

Outer Zone

The less sensitive alarm zone, the Multicare X bed outer zone or out of bed zone monitors and triggers the alarm when the patient physically leaves the bed. The outer zone alarm can be used and is the choice for more conscious, oriented, and mobile patients.

Changing between the inner and outer zone can be done on the multiboard X, press the corresponding icon for each zone.

Note: The bed alarm will go off when the patient leaves and moves out of the selected zone, but also re-arm when the patient comes back within seven seconds. It is possible to pause the alarm manually, which will last 15 minutes, and automatically re-arm when the patient is detected to be back in bed or after the 15 minutes is up.

Deactivation

Deactivating the bed for when the patient needs to leave the bed can be done with the following:

  1. Press the stop button.
  2. Press tick icon if sure and would like to continue with alarm deactivation.
    • Note: Do not forget to turn the bed exit alarm back on again, when the patient returns to the bed.
  3. The multiboard X will display “BED EXIT IS OFF” while the alarm is off.
