The examination position is used as the easiest way to transfer or transition to an ergonomic flat bed position from another position, such as cardiac chair. A good number of nursing procedures are done with patients in a horizontal position, or patients laying down on their back, with proper height adjustment.

Examination position can be started by pushing the pedal twice and holding the pedal foot control until the bed reaches its optimal position and the desired height. The examination position flattens the bed and adjusts the bed height to its height position.

Additionally, foot control gives the carer or nurse immediate control over the patient and their position. Foot pedals are highly advantageous when manoeuvring the patient, allow bed tilting, and assist carers to be hands-free throughout the process.
