Multicare X Passive Leg Raise test or PLR is a procedure that predicts fluid responsiveness within critical care and intensive care environments. The bedside passive leg raise test is an easy way to help evaluate possible fluid requirements.

The Multicare X bed also allows for a good elevation of the legs without any physical effort. The recommended PLR test position and elevation can be achieved by putting the legs at a 45-degree angle.

Note: Use bed controls of the Multicare X with the PLR test performed fully automatically to obtain the most accurate measurements during the test. It is not recommended to move the patient manually.

To perform the PLR test with the Multicare X bed, do the following steps:

  1. Check the head of the bed is up at 45 degrees, check the lower limbs are at a horizontal plane.
    • Note: Keep patient in this position for at least one minute. Baseline of measured parametres should be obtained.
  2. Press and hold the Trendelenburg button until a maximum tilt is achieved.
  3. Lower the head of the bed until it gets back down to 0 degrees.
  4. Check the multiboard X display for angle adjustment information.
  5. Press and hold the vascular position button until the bed adjusts to the maximum position.
  6. Check the 45-degree elevation for the legs is set.
    • Note: Keep patient in this final position for at least 30 seconds and at most 120 seconds. Watch and obtain measured parametres.
  7. If there is no change in parametre after 120 seconds, return patient to their initial semi-recumbent position.
  8. Press and hold the reverse Trendelenburg button until it returns to a 0-degree angle.
  9. Adjust thigh section to the lowest position for a horizontal position of lower limbs.
  10. Check the head of the bed and set to 45 degrees, back to the initial position. Obtain measured parametres and check if values came back to measured baseline.
