As a safety feature, the Eleganza 5 does not allow the bed to be tilted in the direction of a side rail that is down. Not allowing the bed to be tilted with the side rails down is a feature that prevents patients from sliding and eventually falling off the bed. If needed, however, and with nurse or carer supervision, it is possible to override the side rail alarm/feature.

Side rail override can be done as follows:

• Press the green GO button.
• Press the MODE and mobilisation buttons simultaneously to override the Eleganza 5 side rail. Note: The override will last for three minutes.

The side rail override works best assisting in bed to stretcher transfers and mobilisation for shorter patients. It is possible to extend the override by another three minutes by simply pressing the MODE button, again and again, multiple times until the timer ends and the override is no longer needed.
