A Broselow Cart is a specialised emergency trolley used in hospitals and emergency departments to quickly treat critically ill or injured children. It is organised according to the Broselow Paediatric Emergency Tape, which estimates a child’s weight based on their height.
Each drawer in the cart is colour-coded to match the Broselow tape zones. This allows clinicians to rapidly locate the correct equipment sizes and medication doses for a child of a particular length/weight.
What is it used for?
A Broselow Cart is used during paediatric emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, trauma, or respiratory distress. Its purpose is to:
- Quickly identify the correct drug dosages for children
- Provide appropriately sized paediatric airway and resuscitation equipment
- Reduce calculation errors and delays in emergencies
- Improve speed and safety during paediatric resuscitation
By standardising equipment and medication preparation, the Broselow Cart helps clinical teams respond faster and more accurately when treating children in emergency situations.
