For patient safety and comfort, the Latera beds have a single collapsible wooden side rails with a two-step opening mechanism. Side rails are used to prevent falls and provide support while in bed, and for safety reasons, the patient must always be assisted in opening the release. The patient cannot open and lower the side rails without assistance, not able to open the side rail from the inside of the bed.

To open and lower the side rail, pull up slightly, locate the small release lever, and push it down. The release levers are located on the head end and foot end of the bed, ensure both levers from each end of the bed are pushed. The side rail opening mechanism is at every end of the side rail so that one lever always opens one half of the side rail.

The video below shows a demonstration of how to correctly use the Latera Side Rail Release, watch to learn more.
